INTERVIEW UPDATE
How will we conduct interviews in 2025-2026?
The VCMC Family Medicine Residency Program will be offering both in-person and virtual interviews.
We will conduct interviews between October 22, 2025 and December 17, 2025.
We are committed to ensuring that neither format holds an advantage over the other in our selection process. We recognize that each applicant will have unique personal and professional circumstances that may influence their choice of interview format.
HOW TO APPLY
Consider joining the Ventura Family Medicine Residency Family!
We’re thrilled that you’re considering joining us on your journey toward a rewarding career in Family Medicine. Your interest in our program means a lot to us, and we’re excited to share what makes our training exceptional.

To make the application process as smooth as possible, we’ve outlined a few key guidelines for applying.

Application Process:
We accept applications exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) until December 31. All required documents must be submitted via ERAS; unfortunately, we are unable to accept any faxed, emailed, mailed, or hand-delivered documents.
Requirements:
To be considered for our program, we kindly ask that you:
-
Have graduated from medical school within the past 5 years.
-
Provide at least three letters of recommendation from physicians you’ve closely worked with during medical school. One letter must be from a Family Medicine physician.
-
Have passed USMLE and/or COMLEX Step 1 within no more than two attempts. You must also pass USMLE and/or COMLEX Step 2 before our rank list submission to the NRMP in late February. Documentation of your passing Step 2 is required by that time.
-
Be eligible for licensure in the State of California. Information regarding the Postgraduate Training License can be found here.
-
Submit all additional documentation required by ERAS.
For international medical graduates (IMGs), ECFMG certification is required before you can be considered for an interview.
Next Steps:
Once your application is initially reviewed, we will invite you to respond to two supplemental application questions. Our selection committee will review your complete application holistically, including your responses to these questions, before making a decision about interviews.
We typically offer approximately 200 interviews. If all interview spots are filled, eligible candidates may be placed on a waitlist, and we will notify you if a spot opens up.

As a member of the California Residency Network (CRN) of Family Medicine programs, we are committed to professionalism and transparency in our communication. You can read the CRN pledge [here].
