Fellowships

We are pleased to host five different fellowship opportunities: the Jon Greenwald high-risk OB fellowship at VCMC, the Santa Paula Hospital Maternal-Child Health fellowship, the Ventura Faculty Development fellowship, the Ventura Global Health Fellowship and our Primary Care Addiction Medicine Fellowship.  Read below to learn more.

The mission of the VCMC Faculty Development Fellowship is to develop the next generation of family medicine faculty by enhancing their skills as educators and giving them the opportunity to develop their identities as teachers and leaders with the support of our core family medicine faculty.   During the fellowship, participants will take part in regular faculty development fellowship seminars which cover a wide variety of topics and are led by our core VCMC Family Medicine Faculty.  Seminar topics include coding/billing, bedside teaching, designing scholarly activity, effective lecturing, avoiding burnout, giving feedback, cognitive errors, the difficult patient, and job-finding skills. Mission Statement Our mission is to train family medicine physicians in advanced, full spectrum reproductive health care with a focus on high risk obstetrics and gynecology. Background The Jon Greenwald Obstetrics and Gynecology Fellowship at the Ventura County Medical Center is designed to provide advanced training in surgical and high risk obstetrics, and in full spectrum women’s health care. The Fellowship is offered to a physician who has completed, or is completing, a Family Medicine Residency and who has shown outstanding interest and aptitude in women’s health. The Santa Paula Maternal-Child Health Fellowship is based at Santa Paula Hospital, a 40-bed satellite hospital of VCMC, 15 miles east of Ventura. The fellowship’s goal is to augment the training of family physicians with an interest in working in physician shortage areas or internationally, where care of women and children is often one of the primary medical needs. The core curriculum consists of providing obstetric and pediatric care for the area's patient population, which consists largely of Latino and migrant workers. Mission Statement Our mission is to train full spectrum Addiction Specialists who provide addiction services across all age groups and in all settings. Objectives The fellow will function as a consultant in Addiction Medicine in numerous settings: inpatient consult service, outpatient specialty clinic, Labor and Delivery, NICU, and Emergency Department. The graduate will be able to lead the transformation and integration of addiction medicine in the primary care setting –serving as a consultant for more nuanced care of substance use disorders.
