JUST FOR FUN
Food, drink, and open spaces
Come explore some of our favorite hangouts in Ventura. Click the hyperlinks below for Google Map directions to each stop along the way. The guide is designed to be followed in order, but everything is fairly close by so feel free to pick your spots!

DOWNTOWN
After you've gotten your fill of ocean and islands, park downtown and walk our Main Street.
Stop for lunch...
-
Immigrant Son, a French-Italian Cafe
- Spencer Makenzie’s for almost-famous fish tacos
- Taqueria Tepatitlan for authentic Mexican food

... or a drink

THE BEACH
Ready for the ocean?
Walk from downtown to the Ventura Pier to check out the surf at C-street. While you're there, you can eat at Beach House Tacos, have a drink at MadeWest, or simply take in the surfers, dolphins, and amazing sunsets.

Beginning surfers could rent gear at Ventura Surf Shop and head up the road to Mondos to try their luck, while those with plenty of waves under their belt will paddle out at C-Street or drive up the coast to the world-class point break at Rincon.

GREEN SPACES
Need some time outdoors?
Explore the trails of Arroyo Verde Park, the Harmon Canyon Preserve, or the Ventura Botanical Gardens ($) behind city hall.

Mountain Bikers will also enjoy Harmon Canyon, or stretch it out at Sulphur Mountain Road.

NORTH OXNARD
Our growing neighbor to the South
North Oxnard is cultivating a sprawling suburban city feel, with the Collection as it's launchpad: great shopping anchored by REI and Whole Foods, dining (hello, Ragamuffin Coffee Roasters and Silverlake Ramen), and nightlife including top-shelf comedy shows at Levity Live, trendy bowling at Bowlero, and art plus drinks at The Painted Cabernet. What's more, the Channel Islands Harbor is just a few minutes down the road, with whale watching, fishing trips, excursions to the Channel Islands National Park, and fresh-caught seafood vendors.

DAY TRIP
Ojai and Santa Barbara are just a half-hour away
Ojai is an artsy community at the gateway to the Los Padres National Forest. Stroll the Arcade for shops and restaurants, or head up the 33 for waterfall hikes and mountain vistas.

Santa Barbara, our well-heeled neighbor to the north, sports boutiques, nice restaurants, concert venues, spectacular beaches and some fine foothill hiking trails.
