We are thrilled that you are considering our residency program. We hope you find here any information you might need to help with the process. We are always happy to speak with potential applicants, so please do not hesitate to contact us if we can help.

We educate family physicians to be capable of practicing in any setting.  We provide compassionate care to the underserved.  We work in a health care system that is built around excellent family physicians.  We make the most of three short years of residency.  We live at the beach in Southern California.

2022 INTERVIEW UPDATE

How do we plan to handle interviews in 2022-2023?

The VCMC Family Medicine Residency Program will be offering exclusively virtual interviews for the 2023 application season.

We will conduct interviews between October 19, 2022 and January 19, 2023.

We will offer a series of in-person open house events to allow applicants to see our community, tour the hospital, and meet residents and faculty.  The schedule will be shared with active applicants once available.  These open houses WILL NOT be required for applicants, WILL NOT be part of the evaluation/interview process and WILL NOT influence ranking.  They are genuinely intended to allow applicants an opportunity to assess the program and community as a possible fit for their Family Medicine training.

HOW TO APPLY

Consider joining the Ventura Family Medicine Residency Family!

Thank you for your interest in our residency program.  We appreciate your enthusiasm for training in Family Medicine.  We receive a large volume of applications every year and have instituted the following guidelines to help in the application process.

For the class starting in July 2022 we will accept applications from September 29, 2021 through December 31, 2021 through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  All applications and supporting documents must be submitted via ERAS only, we will not review or accept faxed, emailed, mailed, or hand-delivered application documents.

    Our criteria for an application:

    1. You must have graduated from medical school within the 5 years prior to applying.

    2. Please submit at least three letters of reference from physicians with whom you have worked closely through medical school.  At least one of these references should be a Family Medicine physician.

    3. Passage of USMLE and/or COMLEX Step 1 with no more than two attempts. You must pass USMLE and/or COMLEX Step 2 prior to placement on our Rank List.  Rank lists will be submitted by the Residency Program to the NRMP by late February.  We must have documentation that you have passed USMLE and/or COMLEX Step 2  by that time.

    4. Eligible for licensure in the State of California. Current information regarding Postgraduate Training Licenses can be found at https://www.mbc.ca.gov/Licensing/Postgraduate-Training-Licensees/

    5. All other documentation and information as required by ERAS.

    6. If you are an IMG applicant, you must have ECFMG certification prior to being considered for an interview.  We are unable to sponsor any type of Visa.

Interviews will be offered only after you have submitted a completed application through ERAS.  We generally are able to offer about 180-200 interview slots.  Once all interview slots are taken, we will place remaining eligible candidates on a wait list.  If an interview slot becomes available, we will notify candidates on our wait list.

As a member of the California Residency Network (CRN) of Family Medicine programs, we have signed on to common professional behaviors regarding communication between applicants and programs. Please read a copy of the pledge signed by the members of the CRN.
