FAQ List
How many residents are in the program?
We accept 15 residents per year, for a total of 60 residents across all four classes once fully built out.
Why is the program 4 years instead of 3?
We believe a 4-year curriculum best equips family physicians for the future. The extra year integrates advanced fellowship-level training (OB, Addiction Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Global/Rural Health, and Expert Generalist tracks) while maintaining continuity clinic and full-spectrum Family Medicine identity. This allows graduates to enter practice with broader scope, deeper expertise, and stronger preparation for underserved settings.
What makes Ventura’s Family Medicine Residency unique?
We are a rigorous, full-spectrum 4-year Family Medicine residency—one of the first in the nation to require a 4-year curriculum. Our training is intentionally designed to preserve the breadth of Family Medicine, including maternity care (with C-sections), hospital medicine, emergency medicine, addiction medicine, and procedures that prepare you for resource-limited or underserved settings.
